How You Can Help
How you can get involved
There are many ways to join the Fatherhood Collaborative, to support our mission of providing a forum to address & support the importance of men and fathers taking an active role in the well-being of children and families. Whether you are an individual donor, a volunteer, a service-providing organization, or a corporate partner, you can invest in yourself, your community and the Fatherhood Collaborative to make a difference in the lives of dads and their families in San Mateo County.
*** Join the Board
From time to time we have openings on the board for representatives of community-based organizations or of the community-at-large. These members must be residents of San Mateo County. If you would like to apply for board membership, click here for a description of the responsibilities of a board member, and here for an application.
*** Make a Donation, Sponsor an Event or Set up a Resource Table at Dad & Me @ the Park
Most of the programs that the Fatherhood Collaborative puts on are without cost to participants. Dad & Me @ the Park has provided a free lunch, free parking, free entertainment and free gifts to increasingly large numbers of people. (In 2008, more than 700 family members attended this event at Coyote Point Park). For 2010, we are offering an opportunity for merchants, non-profits, and government agencies to set up resource tables at the event, to reach out to our guests. Click here for information on how to have your own resource table.

For 2009 we are partering with five agencies to make a difference in the lives of San Mateo fathers:
Family & Children Services - $6,000- to continue its Positive Solutions Men’s Outreach Project– a project that provides outreach, workshops, and support services to men in the ‘East of Bayshore Community’ who are at risk of family violence, to help them positively change the way they interact with their partners and parent their children.
Peninsula Library Service / Community Information Program - $6,000 – to research and compile an on-line Resource Guide for fathers in San Mateo County.
Ravenswood School District -- $3,000 – for equipment, transportation and incentives for its Team Dad / Equipo de Padres, a program to increase father-involvement in the pre-school program.
Family Connections -- $2,500 – materials, field trips and speakers for its Father / Male Caregiver Program, a program to increase father and male caregiver involvement in the parent-participation pre-school.
Sunset Ridge Elementary School -- $2,500 – for food and art and craft supplies for the Donuts for Dads program, to expand that program which is designed to increase the involvement of the fathers of first grade children.
If you can help with this important effort, please send your tax deductible checks, payable to the Fatherhood Collaborative of San Mateo County, to: Eve Agiewich, Director, Fatherhood Collaborative, San Mateo County Human Services Agency, 400 Harbor Boulevard, Bldg. * The Fatherhood Collaborative is an Advisory Board to the County of San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and the County's Health Department. Therefore, donations to the Fatherhood Collaborative are deductible to the donor to the extent permitted by law.
*** Volunteer by Joining a Committee
As an individual volunteer, you can join a committee or a task force. The FC has two standing committees, and creates task forces from time to time that welcome volunteers who need not be members of the Advisory Board. The standing committees
are:
** The Events Committee is responsible for planning, promoting and organizing events put on by the FC, and supporting events for which the FC is a collaborating partner. Sub-committees are being formed that are responsible for Dad & Me @ the Park, for the Fatherhood Conference, and for supporting Dads Count and Dad & Me @ the Library.
** The Fundraising Committee oversees the implementation of the fundraising plan, leads the Board's participation in resource development and fundraising and familiarizes other board members with fundraising skills. The committee also oversees and develops the Fatherhood Collaborative’s marketing strategy including promotion of the Fatherhood Collaborative, and representation of the Fatherhood Collaborative in the community. It works with the Events committee on specific fundraising events and/or creating fundraising opportunities.
Each of these committees meets once each month, during working hours, and welcomes volunteer help. To see the current schedule of meetings, click here.
