Welcome to the
Fatherhood Collaborative of San Mateo County
Our mission is to provide a forum to address and support the importance of men and fathers taking an active role in the well being of children and families. The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors has recognized the importance of the Fatherhood Collaborative by elevating it to an advisory body, on par with the Commission on Aging, the Commission on the Status of Women, and the Arts Commission. The resolution establishing the advisory board was adopted at the end of September, 2007.
As an official advisory board, the Fatherhood Collaborative makes recommendations regarding policies affecting fathers and families to the Board of Supervisors. Meetings are open to the public and community participation is encouraged.
It's summer and the newsletter is here.
We've set up a link to our roster of attorneys who provide Limited Scope Representation on our Resources page. Or click here.
The Fatherhood Collaborative is a policy and advocacy group whose mission is to provide a forum to address and support the importance of men and fathers taking an active role in the well-being of children and families. We believe that fathers must be involved in the lives of their children, regardless of the family’s composition or legal status. Fatherhood is not only a biological condition; more importantly, it is a uniquely necessary and essential bond that creates a life-long evolving relationship. A relationship that must be continually nurtured and cherished by fathers, their partners, their families, and the community at large.
WE'RE SORRY TO SAY, that...
Due to severe budget constraints, the Fatherhood Collaborative Advisory Board has reluctantly decided to cancel this year’s Dad & Me @ the Park. This annual event has always been free to all participants, including park admission and parking, barbecue lunch, entertainment, t-shirts and admission to the Coyote Point Museum. As a result, the number of guests has grown tremendously over the years. Last year we served more than 700 family members. Our options, this year, were to scale back the event, or charge for admission, both of which were unacceptable and impractical. We are hopeful that our budget difficulties will be resolved by next year, and that some form of Dad & Me @ the Park will be possible.
In the meantime, however, we will be holding our Fatherhood Award Ceremony, for Father of the Year and others, at a Board of Supervisors meeting in September. Look for the nomination forms soon.
[For those who are wondering, this cancellation is totally unrelated to the postponement of our Coaching Boys Into Men conference, which was postponed due to insufficient enrollment]
